The Flyover is a project by We Make Places
We Make Places is a new social enterprise (CiC) set up to provoke debate, make design collaboratively and bring about positive change in our city’s urban environment and communities.
The Flyover is one of the first in a series of ‘Provocations for the City’ by We Make Places and was created by three friends who work in Design, regeneration and Architecture and who care passionately about Liverpool and it’s future.
Steve Threlfall fronts his own professional design practice ‘different‘, a small, yet innovative studio which places people at the heart of design processes. He was previously Creative Director of Team a go-go/studioF for almost two decades. Steve has developed a reputation as one of the country’s leading designers of spaces for education & learning and has also worked on public realm and commercial projects. Steve is currently leading on the development of Urban Workbench for The Flyover.
Kate Stewart has been a facilitator and MD of design studios (working alongside Steve) and theatre companies and has enabled many capital projects in the city and throughout the UK to happen by developing funding campaigns, capital business plans and project teams to deliver them. Kate also has her own jewellery brand Factory Floor Jewels. Her skills of production and stage management are making a welcome return in the development of the programme for Flyover Takeover.
Mark Bennett is founding Director of mBed Architects, having previously been an Associate Architect at Michael Cunningham Architects in Liverpool. Mark has worked on new build and refurbishment projects in sectors including education, social and private housing. Mark has also worked on transport projects and his passion is regeneration and reuse of existing structures. He has for many years been a Design tutor at Liverpool University School of Architecture teaching on the undergraduate, post graduate and masters courses.
This project will only be delivered by working in partnership with public and private sector and we are currently involved in a series of consultations and public presentations.
