Our Light Night Video

We had great fun and also learnt a lot when we worked with Zumtobel and Bega lighting to create a participatory event for Light Night

4 teams of volunteers – some of them our pledgers – including students, designers, architects, teachers, local residents worked to create lighting effects on various parts of the Walkways and Landing Stages

At 10pm the public were encouraged to walk along the structure and experience The Flyover in a different way to it’s usual use – that of simply getting from one side of the road to the other!

We found that people stopped and chatted, experienced different views of the city and began to imagine how the space could become part of city life in the future

Take a look at our video by Liverpool Live TV which explains a bit more and shows some of the great affects we were able to achieve in this short temporary installation. It’s taught us lots for the future design process

Join us for Light Night

We are very excited to announce more details of our Light Night event to light the walkways of Flyover this Friday.

Courtesy of Zumtobel and Bega (2 great commercial lighting manufacturers), we will light the walkways of the Flyover and its surroundings from 5 locations.

As well as being beautiful and great fun, this is very important to us, as it is one of the first steps of community engagement as we explore the design proposals for the Flyover.

We would love people from our city to take part, which you can do in one of 4 ways:

1.  Help us sweep the walkways

We need some volunteers to help us sweep the walkways during the afternoon of Friday 16th

2. Join a lighting team (NO experience necessary – very limited places!)

We will be assembling 5 teams of 5 individuals, each tasked with lighting 1 of 5 locations on and around the Flyover structure. There will be only 25 places places available. Teams will assemble on site at 7pm to receive instruction and get started. You’ll get to have some great fun with seriously cool lighting components, getting ready for the public at 10pm. Please email us at friendsoftheflyover@gmail.com with your name(s), intention to take part, and a contact phone number and the subject LIGHTING TEAM

3. Be a Marshall

The 3 founding Friends (Kate, Steve and Mark) will be marshalling the event on the Flyover, ensuring all the teams are ok and that the walkways and access are safe for the public. We need some willing and enthusiastic volunteer marshalls to join us, assembling on site at 6pm and marshalling up until midnight. You’ll get to see this fabulous lighting installation take shape and meet very interesting folks taking part. If you want to take part, please email us at friendsoftheflyover@gmail.com with your name and a contact phone number and the subject MARSHALL VOLUNTEER

4. Come to view the results

If you are unavailable for being in a lighting team or marshalling, you’re still more than welcome to come along at 10pm to see the results and meet everyone involved – we’d love to see you there. No need to apply to attend, just be there between 10pm and 11.30pm.

Any questions please do email us at friendsoftheflyover@gmail.com

We hope to see you there!
